How do I manage local storage and cache?
Free enough iPhone storage for reliable recording and transfer.
Before you start
- Make sure you are signed in to NodeCam on the phone you are using.
- Open the correct recording session before changing settings or recording.
- If you are working with volunteers, confirm who is the session owner and who is contributing a camera angle.
Steps
- Before recording, check the phone’s available storage.
- In NodeCam, review any Local Storage Used or available-space indicators.
- Move or delete old non-NodeCam media if space is low.
- For on-site sessions, transfer recordings to NodeCam Desktop before deleting them from the phone.
- Use Clear Cache only for cached files, not active recordings you still need.
- If iOS reports Storage Full, open Settings and free space before recording again.
What to expect
- Long services can create very large files.
- NodeCam may warn before recording if available space is too low.
- Cache cleanup can help but may not be enough for 4K or ProRes sessions.
Common gotchas
- Never clear or delete files until you know whether they were uploaded or transferred.
- Storage can disappear during a long recording as the file grows.
- Older iPhones with small storage should use safer settings such as 720p or 1080p H.264.
If you still need help
Contact NodeCam support with your session name, device model, iOS version, and a screenshot of any warning or error message. Do not delete recordings until upload, export, or transfer has been verified.
