Why does NodeCam say my device is not compatible?
Understand why some phones cannot use selected resolution, frame rate, codec, or ProRes settings.
Before you start
- Make sure you are signed in to NodeCam on the phone you are using.
- Open the correct recording session before changing settings or recording.
- If you are working with volunteers, confirm who is the session owner and who is contributing a camera angle.
Steps
- Read the Device Not Compatible message.
- Check which setting it mentions: resolution, frame rate, codec, ProRes, Cinematic Mode, Apple Log, or storage/performance.
- Return to session settings if possible.
- Choose 1080p instead of 4K.
- Choose 30 FPS instead of 60 or 120 FPS.
- Choose H.264 instead of HEVC or ProRes.
- Ask the volunteer to use a newer phone if the angle requires the higher setting.
What to expect
- NodeCam detects capabilities from the phone and only enables many options when supported.
- The session may need safer settings so every volunteer phone can join and record.
Common gotchas
- A phone that can play 4K video cannot always record 4K in every app setting.
- ProRes creates huge files and is only available on supported iPhone models.
- Mixed teams should plan around the least capable device.
If you still need help
Contact NodeCam support with your session name, device model, iOS version, and a screenshot of any warning or error message. Do not delete recordings until upload, export, or transfer has been verified.
