What do I do if camera or microphone access is denied?
Restore iOS camera and microphone permissions when NodeCam cannot show the preview or record audio.
Before you start
- Make sure you are signed in to NodeCam on the phone you are using.
- Open the correct recording session before changing settings or recording.
- If you are working with volunteers, confirm who is the session owner and who is contributing a camera angle.
Steps
- If NodeCam shows Camera Access Required or a similar message, read the on-screen instructions.
- Open the iPhone Settings app.
- Scroll to NodeCam.
- Turn on Camera access.
- Turn on Microphone access if you need sound recorded with the phone.
- Return to NodeCam.
- Use Retry Camera or reopen the Recording Session.
- Confirm the camera preview appears before recording.
What to expect
- After permission is restored, the Recording Session screen should initialize the camera again.
- If no camera is available, such as in some simulator or restricted device situations, NodeCam cannot record video from that device.
Common gotchas
- iOS permission prompts may only appear once. After denying access, you usually must change it in Settings.
- Some organizations manage devices with restrictions; ask the device owner or admin if Camera or Microphone switches are unavailable.
- Granting microphone access is important if editors need scratch audio to identify the take.
If you still need help
Contact NodeCam support with your session name, device model, iOS version, and a screenshot of any warning or error message. Do not delete recordings until upload, export, or transfer has been verified.
